Bio
Rachel Van Liere is an artist who explores the idea of “bodies” using organically tactile glass objects. Through these objects, shared-space is explored, as well as the recurrence of design elements and form within the natural world. She exhibited in a handful of shows throughout Virginia, and her awards include 3rd place in the Riverviews 2012 Juried Artshow. She was a two-time recipient of the Deans International Travel Grant from VCU with which she traveled to Germany for two Summers. While in Germany she interned at the Farbglashütte Lauscha, a glass blowing factory in the Thüringen Mountains. She graduated in 2014 with a Craft/Material Studies degree from Virginia Commonwealth University and now lives and works in Lauscha, Germany, where she continues her exploration of the world through art. In 2021, she established her own studio, where she invites people to explore their own creativity through hands-on experiences; and also seeks to foster synergy among different groups of people across the creative scale, from fine artists to engineers to hobbyists. As an expression of her love for the material glass, she is currently the Glass Princess of Lauscha until 2025. In this role she travels throughout Germany as an ambassador for the handcraft, as well as the city responsible for the origin of glass-blown Christmas ornaments and the prosthetic glass eye.
