Bio
Rachel Van Liere is an artist who explores the idea of “bodies,” through organically tactile glass objects. Through these objects, shared-space is explored, as well as the reoccurrence of design elements/form within the natural world. She has exhibited in a handful of shows throughout the Richmond area, as well her hometown of Lynchburg, VA. Her awards include 3rd place in the Riverviews 2012 Juried Artshow, and she was a two-time recipient of the Deans International Travel Grant with which she traveled to Germany for the Summer. While in Germany she interned at the Farbglashütte Lauscha, a glassblowing factory in the Thüringen Mountains. She graduated in 2014 with a Craft/Material Studies degree from Virginia Commonwealth University and now lives and works in Lauscha, Germany, where she continues her exploration of the world through art. In 2021 she established her own studio, where she invites people to explore their own creativity through hands-on experiences. She also seeks to foster synergy among different groups of people across the creative scale, from fine artists to engineers to hobbyists.
As an expression of her love for the material glass, she is currently the Glass Princess of Lauscha until 2025. In this role she travels throughout Germany as an ambassador for the handcraft, as well as the city responsible for the origin of glass-blown Christmas ornaments.
